Since word of the "Rich Paul Rule" broke on Tuesday night, a number of National Basketball Association stars, celebrities, analysts and fans took to social media to voice their opinions.
James, who was Paul's first client when the agent began Klutch Sports in 2012, believes the rule was created to limit Paul and is the result of the establishment being "scared". He was not the only one to come out swinging for Paul and ridicule the NCAA as a number of NBA players and actor Kevin Hart have criticized the collegiate association for its new ruling.
The new rule requires agents to have a bachelors degree.
Among Paul's clients is Oklahoma City Thunder rookie Darius Bazley, who had a message to everyone trying to stop his agent.
"The NCAA has officially added criteria for agents who wish to represent student athletes testing the waters for the NBA Draft", Rothstein said. He famously built his career after he met LeBron James at an OH airport while selling throwback jerseys out of his vehicle.
Not only does Hazan explain why the rule is bad for young agents, but says it will ultimately hurt the NCAA by driving players out of college basketball. Who knows? It's unclear why the NCAA would specifically target Paul.
Agents must possess a bachelor's degree, NBPA certification for at least three consecutive years, professional liability insurance and completion of an in-person exam taken at the NCAA office in Indianapolis in early November.
Paul has become the most high-profile agent in basketball and all of professional sports.
