"The risk of strong winds and life-threatening storm surge is increasing along the coasts of Georgia and SC during the middle of next week", National Hurricane Center officials said in a Dorian update at 5 a.m. Saturday.
Disney World and Orlando's other resorts faced a potential risk, but they held off announcing any closings with Dorian days away and its track uncertain.
On the International Space Station, astronaut Luca Parmitano of the European Space Agency spotted Hurricane Dorian as it moved across the Atlantic Ocean toward the southeastern USA mainland.
Ryan Truchelut, chief meteorologist at WeatherTiger, said most models show it hitting between Vero Beach and Boca Raton overnight Monday into early Tuesday.
According to the NHC's 8 a.m. update, Dorian is about 445 miles east of West Palm Beach, Florida, and it is moving west at 12 mph.
Storm surge could reach 10 feet (3 meters) or more just north of where the center of Dorian crosses the coast, Pydynowski said.
"Vendors are warned that Price Inspectors are now moving about New Providence and Grand Bahama and other islands in the Northwest Bahamas to monitor the sale of key items, such as water, batteries, flashlights, lanterns, gas, food items, etc for the violation of price related laws".
Governor DeSantis has warned that Dorian could be a "multi day storm".
"I urge you, do not be foolish and try to fearless out this hurricane". Heavy rainfall may be more likely for central SC depending on the course of the storm but how much rain is unclear, the National Weather Service said. The storm is now on the move towards the northern Bahamas where hurricane warnings are in effect. The Bahamas Prime Minister has warned residents they may pay with their life if they choose not to evacuate.
"Let me be extremely clear, those who refuse to evacuate, place themselves in great danger from this very powerful and potentially life-threatening hurricane, which will bring dangerously strong and high storm surges - one of the greatest threats from a hurricane", he said.
The Oncor crews will stop in MS on Friday night and then continue their journey on Saturday. "Georgia and North Carolina also", Trump tweeted.
The forecast expects Dorian to cause "large and destructive waves" of up to 15 feet along the "eastern and northern shores of Eleuthera and Abaco" on Sunday, and the northern and southern shores of Grand Bahama from Sunday night through to Monday morning.
There are no watches or warnings in effect for the Midlands of SC, the weather service said.
- Pinellas County Commissioners declared a local state of emergency Saturday, keeping a close eye on Hurricane Dorian as it churns through the Atlantic.
"I think there's a pretty high degree of certainty that this is going to be a major hurricane", DeSantis said.
"At this point the track the hurricane center is issuing is not the catastrophe that could happen, which is good", Maue said Saturday.
But officials have already began gearing for the storm's possible impact. Major airlines began allowing travelers to change their reservations without fees.
Forecasters say it's still too early to tell whether Dorian would make a direct hit on the state's east coast or inflict a glancing blow.
