Control developer Remedy has unveiled the roadmap for some of the free, and paid content coming to the game over the next several months.
First up will be a Photo Mode which will be added to the game in a free update at some point in the Autumn, and that will be followed in December by a new game mode called Expeditions.
Photo Mode, which will allow you to take snapshots of Jesse as you explore the Oldest House, arrives sometime in the fall. In early 2020, the first true expansion comes in the form of "The Foundation", a location in the game that seems ripe for exploration. There are references to Alan Wake in the lore of Control, so is it so far-fetched to speculate that AWE is Alan Wake's Escape? Just like the Photo Mode, Expeditions will be free to all players who already own the base game.
Control is available on PS4, Xbox One, and PC (Epic Games Store). This will offer a series of challenging new endgame content, in which Jesse will need to help Security Chieft Arish in exploring the mysterious Formation and its surroundings.
Interestingly, the artwork for AWE features the three initials split horizontally, with artwork from Control in the lower half and the cover artwork for another Remedy game, Alan Wake, in the top half, featuring Alan shining a flashlight straight ahead. "At the request of the ever-mysterious Board, Jesse must explore what lies beneath the Bureau as she returns order to the Foundation and the Oldest House itself", 505 Games says.
We're off to see Control at next week's E3, but until we put up our preview coverage, here's a teaser. The image for the AWE expansion uses the Alan Wake font, with two images filling in the letters. Also, players should "Expect things to get weird". The second paid expansion is AWE - which stands for Altered World Event. Both expansions are included as part of Control's season pass but will also be available individually at an as of yet disclosed price. Have you been playing Control?
