Variety, which obtained an advanced copy of Farrow's book, first reported that former NBC News employee Brooke Nevils alleged in a complaint that Lauer anally raped her during the winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia. Variety reports it obtained an advanced copy of "Catch and Kill", scheduled to hit bookstores next week, identifying a woman accusing Lauer of anally raping her in a Russian Federation hotel room.
Harvey Weinstein pressured NBC News into killing an investigation into his alleged sexual abuse using dirt on Matt Lauer, Ronan Farrow alleges in his new book. NBC said it fired Lauer on November 29, 2017, after a female staffer accused him of inappropriate sexual behavior, but did not identify her.
"We were sitting here just like this two years ago", Kotb said, referring to her and Guthrie's broadcast the day Lauer was sacked. "Our hearts break again for our colleague".
"She was a fully enthusiastic and willing partner", he wrote.
Guthrie said they are disturbed "to our core".
In his letter, Lauer was adamant that his encounters with Nevils were consensual and that his silence since sexual assault allegations were made against him two years ago only "emboldened those who continue to do me harm with false stories". "I remember thinking, 'Is this normal?'" She told me she stopped saying 'no, ' but wept silently into a pillow".
Lauer and Nevils had more sexual encounters once they returned to NY.
"And we don't know all the facts in all of this, but there are not allegations of an affair", she added. "'This is what I blame myself most for, '" she says to Farrow.
In a memo to colleagues provided to Mediaite by NBC, Lack called the allegations against Lauer "deeply disturbing".
"Weinstein made it known to the network that he was aware of Lauer's behaviour and capable of revealing it", Farrow writes. She said that one night, she and Vieira were having drinks in the hotel NBC News employees were staying in, and Lauer joined them.
Nevils did, and her attorney said that NBC took swift action at that point.
"Sources close to Lauer emphasized that she sometimes initiated contact", Farrow wrote.
Lauer said the night in Sochi was the first of several sexual encounters he had with Nevils over several months, including one in his dressing room at NBC, which "showed bad judgment on my part".
She admitted to NBC at the time she filed her complaint that she called me late at night while I was home with my family in an effort to rekindle the affair.
Radford told viewers that NBC has reached out to both Nevils and Lauer for statements, but they have not offered any. "And I honestly don't even know what to say about it".
Once inside the room, she says Lauer forced himself onto her and raped her.
The sexual encounters continued after the NBC crew was back in NY following the Olympics. Nevils went on to claim that once back in the States, she, out of fear for what the veteran newsman might do to her career if rebuffed, had sexual encounters with Lauer.
"We don't know all the facts in all of this, but they're not allegations of an affair, they're allegations of a crime, and I think that's shocking to all of us here who have sat with Matt for many, many years", Kotb continued.
