Mike Shildt took the ball from Dakota Hudson and patted him on the back of the neck.

Parra's choice of the viral hit Baby Shark as his walkup song in June escalated into an entire stadium belting it out - complete with actions - as the Nationals booked their first trip to Major League Baseball's World Series on Wednesday (NZT).

"I mean, this doesn't happen every year, and there's a lot of excitement about it".

"It just seems like everybody wants younger and younger players, and everybody wants to forget about all the old guys", Scherzer said. St. Louis was outscored 20-6 and never led at any point. "We weren't able to do that".

Check out the video of both plays, including the Cardinals' disastrous error, below. Zimmerman grounded to third, but the fielder's choice throw to Kolten Wong was bobbled and everyone was safe. St. Louis didn't go down as quietly as they have these first three games, cutting the lead to three by the fifth and having the tying run on first in the eighth.

"It just dropped", Martínez said. That play opened the door for the huge inning.

Looks like it's going to be a long night for the Cardinals.

Of course, that continued, too.

It plated a run and left the bases loaded. The organization is on its way to winning its first-ever National League pennant and as a result, its first World Series appearance, pending a win tonight.

After two innings, the Nats lead 7-0 over the Cardinals.

The Cardinals struck out 14 times, all swinging, totaling 48 for the series.

For the first time in franchise history, the Washington Nationals are headed for the World Series!

"Sometimes", he said, "you got to wait for good things". "I didn't play well enough to help us win". Houston won two of the first three games in the series.

With a man on second and the tying run in the on-deck circle, Corbin came through, striking out St. Louis' 3-4 hitters, Paul Goldschmidt and Marcell Ozuna, with sliders.
