Airbnb plans to rid the short-term rental website of "party houses", the CEO announced after five people died in a shooting at an Airbnb party house outside of San Francisco on Halloween night.
What was supposed to be a fun night turned violent, as gunshots rang out and five people were killed. When officers arrived, they discovered a "chaotic scene" with more than 100 people at the home that had been rented on Airbnb.
"Starting today, we are banning "party houses" and we are redoubling our efforts to combat unauthorized parties and get rid of abusive host and guest conduct, including conduct that leads to the awful events we saw in Orinda", Chesky wrote, announcing the new mandate.
Airbnb was expanding manual screening of "high-risk reservations" flagged by its risk detection technology, and was creating a house party 'rapid response team, ' co-founder and chief executive Brian Chesky, seen here on March 13, 2017, said.
"I feel for the families and neighbors impacted by this tragedy - we are working to support them", Chesky said.
The "mansion party", as it was advertised on social media, took place at a house in Orinda, not far from Airbnb's San Francisco headquarters.

No arrests had been made and there was no immediate word on a motive for the attack.
"We called the police". Anyone found in violation of the upgraded policies could be removed, he said. The Contra Costa County Sheriff's Office identified them Friday evening as Tiyon Farley, 22, of Antioch; Omar Taylor, 24, of Pittsburg; Ramon Hill Jr., 23; and Javin County, 29.
Several other people were wounded, police said, without giving an exact number. Black said USA media reports have documented at least 30 shootings at Airbnb rentals since May.
Chesky's announcement came as a fifth victim was identified as having died at the hospital following the shooting.
Airbnb was founded in 2008 and provides a platform for property owners and residents to rent spare rooms or entire homes to travellers.
