Addressing the reports of a midweek conversation with Rummenigge, Wenger says he was actually on the receiving end of the call, "On Wednesday afternoon, Rumenigge called me".
"He will manage the next two games, because they play Borussia Dortmund tomorrow [on Saturday]".
Bayern Munich's interim coach Hansi Flick was to be in charge for only two matches but club chief executive officer Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said on Saturday (Nov 9) he would remain until further notice after the side's 4-0 demolition of Bundesliga title rivals Borussia Dortmund. I don't want to stress him'. I could not answer at that moment and, by politeness, I called him back.
Bayern have been linked with Erik ten Hag, Massimiliano Allegri, Jose Mourinho and Arsene Wenger in their search for a full-time successor for Kovac, with Wenger stating on Friday that he expects to hold talks with chairman Rummenigge next week. He was in his auto to the game against Olympiacos.
'We decided together we will talks next week because I am in Doha until Sunday night.
'He asked me if I would be interested because they are looking for a coach. It needs some time to think about.
Between them, Hoeness and Rummenigge have helped grow Bayern into one of the most successful clubs in Europe.
"It's nice to let me explain the story because it's a surprising story", Wenger told beIN SPORTS.
Asked whether he would also be in charge in their next game at Fortuna Duesseldorf on Nov 23 after the worldwide break, Rummenigge said: "One should assume so".
The champions are fourth, four points behind leaders Borussia Monchengladbach after 10 games.
