Du Bois Medal ceremonies at Harvard University, in Cambridge, Mass. Kaepernick plans to audition for NFL teams on Saturday, Nov. 16, 2019, in a private workout arranged by the league to be held in Atlanta.
The NFL did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
However, with the kerfuffle over the list of what teams are set to be on hand for the workout, it appears that Kaepernick's representatives are beginning to get vexed over the deal. The NFL, they said in the statement, also "has demanded that as a precondition to the workout, Mr. Kaepernick sign an unusual liability waiver that addresses employment-related issues and rejected the standard liability waiver from physical injury proposed by Mr. Kaepernick's representatives".
Kaepernick has not played in the National Football League since opting out his contract with the San Francisco 49ers in 2017 after the team told him he'd be released.
Former NFL head coach Hue Jackson will lead the drills, and former NFL head coach Joe Philbin will be in attendance to assist, the league announced Thursday. According to ESPN, over 24 teams are expected to send scouts to Saturday's workout.
A bunch of protesters and supporters alike had gathered outside the Falcons facility to both cheer and speak out against Kap.
The NFL previously said 11 teams were committed to attend: the Arizona Cardinals, Atlanta Falcons, Cleveland Browns, Denver Broncos, Detroit Lions, Miami Dolphins, New England Patriots, New York Giants, New York Jets, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Washington Redskins. If Jay-Z carried any significant weight with the league, like he allegedly does, Kaepernick would've been on a roster already. That's odd. So we'll see what happens. Kaepernick's representatives then asked if it could be a later Saturday. They said media would now be allowed to attend the workout. We now have no idea who Kaepernick will be working out for, and to what end.
