Reports started to appear in early 2019 that Microsoft planned to change how Cortana was used fundamentally. It's unclear how broadly the app will be removed - based on Microsoft's message, it will happen in at least three countries.
The move, however, doesn't mean Microsoft is shutting down the Cortana digital assistant. The company has posted a support page on its website where it clearly stated that the digital assistant will be integrated into Microsoft 365. It's unclear whether US users will retain access to Cortana on mobile.
As per a new support article, the app will no longer be available in certain countries outside the U.S. after January 31, at which point it's going to get rolled into the Microsoft 365 Office apps. Unfortunately, Microsoft will be removing Cortana apps from both Android and iOS as well as the company will be removing Cortana support from Microsoft Launcher.
According to Microsoft, it will update the Microsoft Launcher by January 31 in order to remove Cortana.
By that date, user created Cortana content will no longer function in the PDA mobile app or Microsoft Launcher on iOS and Android, the IT giant said in a support article. However, users can access the content in the Windows app of Cortana. Existing notes, to-do lists, and calendar items will automatically be migrated to Microsoft's other apps.
