These are important components of why this deal should be approved.
Legere himself isn't retiring.
Since Sievert and Legere have been working side-by-side for a number of years, we're unlikely to see T-Mobile drop the Un-carrier gimmick once Sievert walks into the CEO's office.
Will Legere be heading to WeWork next year?
One company sounds out of the running, though. "He has a deep understanding of where T-Mobile has been and where it needs to go to remain the most innovative company in the industry".
Given their current roles, Legere and Sievert are already very well acquainted.
"Sources note TMUS had a recent Board meeting just last week and we believe such transition removes uncertainty (especially given recent WeWork / Legere headlines - which he denied today)", wrote the Wells Fargo team in a Monday note to investors. The merger with Sprint is planned to close in the first half of 2020, pending final regulatory clearance. The company is in the midst of acquiring smaller rival Sprint Corp.
The two standouts, however, are Chief Commercial Officer Draper and CTO John Saw, both of whom come from Clearwire, a home internet provider Sprint acquired in 2013. "I expect they'll make the transition without missing a beat". When the merger with Sprint was announced in April 2018, the carriers said Legere would continue to run the combined company, with Sievert being its COO and president.
Sievert joined T-Mobile as its chief marketing officer in 2012, was promoted to chief operating officer in 2015, and added president to his list of titles in 2018. With the T-Mobile announcement pending, "I couldn't say it, but it did create a weird, awkward period of time".
But while I've always found Sievert dynamic and charming, Legere is a unique character.
For example, looking at the social media presence of Legere, his Twitter account has 6.5 million followers, while a quirky Christmas themed message on YouTube in 2015 was viewed 226,266 times.
Referring to himself as "Batman", Legere injected his personality into his role, becoming known for guzzling Red Bull, running marathons, dropping f-bombs and attracting fans with his popular Slow Cooker Sunday cooking show.
