The White House on Friday shot back at former National Security Adviser John Bolton over his claim that it had locked him out of his Twitter account, with Press Secretary Stephanie Grisham suggesting the former ambassador was of "advanced age" and had simply forgotten his password.
"Glad to be back on Twitter after more than two months, he said in the first of a series of tweets".
Bolton's return to the platform comes at a sensitive time for the Republican administration.
His previously last tweet from his verified account was on September 10, the day President Trump fired him as his national security adviser.
Before Friday, Mr. Bolton's last tweet was on September 10, when he said, "I offered to resign last night and President Trump said, 'Let's talk about it tomorrow.'" Mr. Trump had tweeted 12 minutes earlier that he asked for Mr. Bolton's resignation. For the backstory, protect tuned'. Of course not. No, I actually had a good relationship with John.
Mr Bolton is among various USA officials described as being alarmed at Mr Trump's controversial use of his personal lawyer Rudy Giuliani on Ukraine policy, which is under intense scrutiny in a Democratic-led impeachment inquiry. The letter claimed that Bolton "was personally involved in numerous events, meetings, and conversations about which you have already received testimony".
"The White House did not block Bolton from accessing his personal Twitter account, and wouldn't have the technical means to do so", a senior administration official said.
The former national security adviser said on Friday that the White House had not returned the access to his account.
Fiona Hill, an expert on Russian Federation who worked in the administration under Bolton, testified Thursday that he had referred to the incident Democrats allege constitutes a "quid pro quo" arrangement as a "drug deal" and refused to be involved.
Bolton's lawyer has acknowledged the lawmakers have to discipline a subpoena within the event that they are searching to hear from their shopper.
Former top Ukraine diplomat Willliam Taylor testified that Mr. Bolton warned against setting up the July 25th phone call between Mr. Trump and Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky that became the central focus of the impeachment probe. Bolton said he resigned.
