Last week, when fans of the Disney + Star Wars series The Mandalorian wondered if official toys and merchandising with their new favorite character would be available before Christmas, unofficial GIFs of this character were celebrated on the popular GIPHY website.
"We have temporarily removed (the Baby Yoda GIF files) while we are reviewing the situation", the statement said, adding that this was due to "some confusion".
Speaking in an interview with Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Showto help promote her new Star Wars movie, Ridley was asked to choose between Star Wars' new cuties: Baby Yoda or Porgs. But last week, Baby Yoda GIFs started being removed from hosting site Giphy; many critics assumed Disney was behind the takedown, but the BBC reports it was Giphy that blocked them. Of course, no one has ever removed the Porg GIFs, and they are as good as the Baby Yoda GIFs. But if you can't make it look almost as good as the Baby Yoda cake in this video, at the very least you'll have a great photo you can post on social media in the vein of the popular baking failure series Nailed It.
It said it had done so because of "confusion" about their legal status.
Disney was initially blamed by many fans for the intervention after Vulture magazine, which often publishes gif collections, reported on the image cull after its own posts on the gifs had been pulled.
