Fire officials are now estimating almost 500 acres that have burned and with the new spot fire there is an immediate threat to structures from the downhill push.
The air quality level in Goleta is "moderate", according to the Santa Barbara County Air Pollution Control District.
As of 9 p.m. Monday, it had swelled to 3,000 acres and was 0% contained, Santa Barbara County officials said in their local emergency declaration. According to National Weather Service officials, wind gusts near the fire hit 27 miles per hour.
Evacuations orders remain in effect Tuesday for a brush fire that started near the town of Goleta north of Santa Barbara, California, triggering evacuations and threatening homes. The Ventura County Fire Department said it sent two strike teams of 10 fire engines to assist.

"Residents are encouraged to make preparations for a possible multiple day power outage lasting as long as 5-7 days and check on friends and neighbors to make sure they are prepared".
There was no immediate information on whether homes were damaged.
The fire was mainly burning in the forest but evacuations were ordered north of Cathedral Oaks in Goleta in the foothills.
The dangers of the cycle of fire and flood is a raw memory in the region.
