The Knicks are 0-8 against opponents of the Atlantic Division this season.
Instead, the Knicks have a worse record through 2019-20's first 19 games than 2018-19 of 4-15 to 5-14, respectively.
This Knicks team was never expected to be at the forefront of anything, but losing early and often has put them below last year's terrible stretch.
"I don't know if we got down", Walker said.
"It's just trying to figure out what little pockets of the game can we tighten up to give ourselves that next chance", Fizdale said.
Julius Randle emerged as the leading scorer for the Knicks, racking up 26 points on 50% shooting. He confirmed to NBC Sports' Abby Chin that he did get hit in the same spot where he tore his oblique, and that he was still in pain when he left Madison Square Garden.
Still, head coach David Fizdale believes that there have been notable improvements during the latest 10-game stretch, despite that fact that the team has just two wins during that time frame. Talk about guys hitting shots at the buzzer on you or shots with two seconds left to win the game and things like that.
"We've played better basketball", Fizdale said after Saturday's practice. "But I don't think we can keep going into games and giving up 85 points with 10 minutes to go and expect to be successful". This year's challenge is to develop RJ Barrett, Dennis Smith Jr., Kevin Knox, Mitchell Robinson and Allonzo Trier in the right way. The Celtics lead the all-time series against the Knicks 296-182, including a 160-64 advantage in NY.
The Knicks will look to avenge that loss, and halt their current five-game skid, on Sunday as they host the Celtics. Clearly, that's not happening now, given where Knox and Trier stand, but if the Knicks walk out of this rigorous part of their schedule without a win, they could be 4-20 by December 11, before a battle of the worst records with Golden State. Nine different Boston players have had at least one start.
The Celtics are 8-2 in conference play.
