First Lady Melania Trump has transitioned the Trump White House Christmas aesthetic from last year's daunting Yuletide Black Lodge theme to something like a repeat of 2017's cold, detached Fortress of Solitude motif. "I am delighted to share this lovely exhibit of patriotism for all to see, and excited for everyone to experience the beauty of the #Christmas season!" the first lady tweeted, along with the video. Towering more than 18 feet tall, this Douglas fir is decorated with handmade paper flowers representing each state and territory.
The East Wing features the Gold Star Family Tree, which the statement says was decorated by Gold Star families.
The president's Christmas guide to the White House's holiday decorations included a very "grown up" signature from his youngest son.
The first lady on Saturday wrote a message of thanks to all those who contributed to the decorations and decorating, "Volunteers are hard at work at the White House". "No matter which state they call home, many Americans share a strong set of values and deep appreciation for the traditions and history of our great nation". She also tweaks a mini-wreath on a window of the traditional gingerbread White House in the State Dining Room.
Author and designer Coleen Christian Burke has worked with several First Ladies to bring together their unique vision of Christmas at the White House.
The White House pastry team carefully constructed this masterpiece out of 200 lbs. of gingerbread dough, 125 lbs. of pastillage dough, 35 lbs. of chocolate, and 25 lbs. of royal icing.
Late Sunday, she teased her Twitter followers with a minute-long video sneak peek of some of the decorations as she walked through the State Floor of the White House to put finishing touches on the displays.
The popular display also features models of some of the nation's most famous landmarks, including Mount Rushmore, St. Louis' Gateway Arch, the Alamo, the Liberty Bell and the Statue of Liberty, along with the Golden Gate Bridge and the Space Needle. There was no sign of the red cranberry trees that drew so much criticism previous year.
