With most of the East Coast of Australia suffering catastrophic fires that have torn apart upwards of five million hectares in NSW alone, it's a bit of respite to hear that the Irwin family have saved the lives of over 90,000 injured animals.
The family owns and operates the zoo.
Robert's sister, Bindi, has also shared a few photos of the rescued animals from time to time.
Terri continued, adding that at this point: "Koalas are classed as vulnerable, and I think after this event, we need to really sit down and look at classing them as endangered and protecting our icons. Our Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital has treated over 100 of these lovely little souls". "We have such an incredible team who work day and night to protect gorgeous animals like Blossom". The Wildlife Hospital is "busier than ever", says Bindi in her Insta post.
"Devastatingly this attractive girl didn't make it even after working so hard to save her life", wrote Bindi. "This is the heart-wrenching truth, every day is a battle to stand up and speak for those who can not speak for themselves", she wrote.
Late past year, Bindi led the tributes to her late father on Steve's national day.
As devastating bushfires continue to be fought in Australia, Bindi Irwin has said she wishes her father Steve Irwin was still alive to give his "advice and strength" in the troubling times. But the rain was also making it challenging for fire crews to complete strategic burns as they tried to prepare for higher temperatures that have been forecast for later in the week.
A total of 146 fires are burning across the state of New South Wales, with 65 uncontained according to CNN.
The 2019-2020 bushfires have burned over 6,300,000 hectares, destroyed more than 2,500 buildings and killed an estimated 26 people.
"Climate change is influencing the frequency and severity of unsafe bush fire conditions", said the Australian Bureau of Meteorology.
