Directed by Lana Wilson, Miss Americana pulls back the curtain on everything from Swift's songwriting process to her recent foray into political activism and her evolving attitude toward the spotlight. Swift took to Twitter to share a personal statement, asking her fans to persuade Big Machine and Braun to allow Netflix to use her previous hit songs on her upcoming documentary.
"That can push you one of two ways", she added.
Helmed by Emmy victor Wilson, Miss Americana chronicles the transformation of the singer and sometimes monikered "America' Sweetheart" over the a year ago or so from ingenue to a performer willing to use her fame and platform for her beliefs, political and otherwise. After earning a reputation of being politically neutral for most of her career (even during the polarizing election of 2016) Swift finally spoke out during the 2018 Midterm Elections. He seems to have inspired so many of her songs from Lover, so we had hoped he would make a cameo. She has come out in support of LGBT rights and advocated to get the Equality Act passed by creating a petition and writing a public letter to her representative. A voiceover announcing that "Taylor broke her silence on politics" quickly ends the guessing game. "So it's just been a really hard time for us as a family", Swift said. That promise was met with extreme favorability from the audience and even earned Swift a fist bump from Letterman. "A nice girl smiles and says and waves and says thank you.' I became the person everyone wanted me to be". "I want to be on the right side of history". "I could have just curled up and decided I'm never going to one of those events ever again, or it could make me work harder than anyone expects me to, and try things no one expected, and crave that respect - and hopefully one day get it".
I like Taylor Swift's music, and I'm happy to admit it! Opening with Swift telling cameras that she's spent her whole life being instructed to be silent, the trailer then outlines the megastar's haters and their criticisms, flashing through years of scorn she's suffered from members of the American media.
