After a winter full of rumors, the Boston Red Sox have finally traded former MVP Mookie Betts.
The Los Angeles Dodgers have agreed to acquire Mookie Betts and David Price from the Boston Red Sox.
The Red Sox didn't want to lose him for nothing, so they made a trade, netting a solid return from the Dodgers in the process.
The trade includes a third team, the Minnesota Twins, with the Dodgers sending starter Kenta Maeda to Minnesota, which in turn will ship hard-throwing pitching prospect Brusdar Graterol to Boston, sources said, confirming a report by The Athletic.
Last season with the Red Sox, Betts hit.295 with 29 home runs and 80 RBIs, while also leading the American League with 135 runs scored. With Betts officially gone, the Red Sox are now down to +3000.
Betts won the 2018 American League MVP and could command a contract this victor in excess of $400 million.
Over the course of his career. Boston will bid adieu to one of its most popular and productive players of the current generation in parting with Betts - the 2018 AL MVP and a career.301/.374/.519 hitter.
This is the exact move that they needed to make to get not only the fanbase, but also the team itself, apparently, excited for the 2020 season.
Graterol, a hard-throwing, 21-year-old right-hander, pitched 9⅔ innings last season in the majors, going 1-1 with a 4.66 ERA. With Betts and Price slotting into the Dodgers' lineup and rotation, respectively, L.A.is not only considered the favorite to win the NL West for an eighth straight year, but they also are one of the favorites in a to win the World Series.
