The Treasury Division is complying with requests from GOP senators and has became over extremely delicate data relating to Hunter Biden and his trade friends to Republican senators who've requested for the fabrics, Yahoo Information reported on Thursday.
Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, and Sen.
"The legal implications of this request could affect protections for all Americans against politically-motivated disclosures of personal tax information, regardless of which party is in power", Mnuchin said in an April 2019 letter.
They asked for a description of the protective detail that Biden received while his father was in office and a list of dates and locations or travel for Biden during that time. His son served on the board of Burisma Holdings, a Ukrainian energy company, from 2014 to 2019, in addition to conducting business in China.
The inquiry, which includes at least a half dozen records requests to various organizations and executive branch agencies, has proceeded since fall with relatively little notice.
Biden has said Trump wanted to get Ukraine to investigate him because he fears running against Biden as the Democratic nominee.
The irony, of course, is that the House of Representatives was deep into their impeachment inquiry of President Trump.
Republicans have also scrutinized Hunter Biden's business dealings in Ukraine, which factored into the Trump impeachment saga. As the Senate Republicans' records requests show, the quest for corroboration continues.
It also asks for "the protective detail that Hunter Biden received while his father was Vice President", and a "list of all dates and locations of travel, worldwide and domestic, for Hunter Biden". Financial institutions are required to file suspicious activity reports with the Treasury Department if they reasonably suspect customer transactions may be connected to money laundering.
Democrats claimed vigorously the Bidens did nothing wrong and there was no reason to investigate them. Now the request is tied up in court.
In addition to the Treasury letter, the Senate Republicans chairmen requested information late previous year related to Ukraine from Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Attorney General William Barr. He said it's hard to see what legislative goal Republicans are after with regard to Hunter Biden.
They've asked data on Hunter Biden as smartly from the State Division, the Justice Division, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Nationwide Archives and the Secret Carrier.
Sen. Charles Grassley, who announced the probe, has been a firm backer of Trump's.
Grassley refused to identify what information Treasury provided when reached by the New York Times, but said through a spokesman, "It's unfortunate that Democrats whom we've kept in the loop on our investigations would recklessly seek to interfere with legitimate government oversight".
The Treasury Department declined to comment.
