AT&T: "We value our participation in important industry groups like GSMA and deeply respect the steps they have already taken to protect attendees". In an official statement, HMD says it has been monitoring the coronavirus outbreak situation closely and has made a decision to skip the MWC 2020 after much deliberation.
According to GSMA figures, as many as 6 000 people from China would be expected to attend, as part of over 100 000 visitors.
Rather than meeting customers and stakeholders in Barcelona, Nokia plans to go directly to customers with a series of "Nokia Live" events aimed at showcasing the industry-leading demos and launches scheduled for MWC.

While disappointing for smartphone makers around the world - and, indeed, the journalists who write about them - the move will have a huge impact on the people of Barcelona, Catalonia and Spain generally.
In a statement quoted by Cnet, Sony said: "As we place the utmost importance on the safety and wellbeing of our customers, partners, media and employees, we have taken the hard decision to withdraw from exhibiting and participating at MWC 2020 in Barcelona, Spain". "The health and security of our employees and the wider public are a priority for us".
Additionally, MWC's organiser GSMA has also issued sweeping safeguards over growing concerns of deadly coronavirus. The GSMA will not allow travelers from China's Hubei province to attend the event, and anyone traveling from China will need to provide proof that they've been out of the country for 14 days prior to MWC.
It is also encouraging those attending the conference to adopt a "no-handshake" policy.
The death toll of Coronavirus reached 1,113 in China and the confirmed cases rose to 44,653 as of Tuesday, Feb 12.
