In mainland China as a whole, there are approximately 8,000 suspected cases of infection.
The number of new cases in the province on Monday was around 100 higher than those on Sunday but still sharply down from those reported on Friday and Saturday.
Worries about its spread remain high and the epidemic's reach was highlighted by the United States announcing that more than three dozen Americans from a cruise ship quarantined off Japan were infected. The first group of the 400 USA passengers aboard the Diamond Princess cruise ship, which has been docked at the port of Yokohama in Japan for quarantine since February 3, were allowed to leave the boat Sunday morning.
While the vast majority of deaths have occurred in mainland China, there have been fatal cases of the virus in Hong Kong, the Philippines, Japan and France. "We don't know a lot about this virus".

In another development a Communist Party outlet published an internal speech given by Chinese President Xi Jinping, dated 7 January.
In the speech, Xi said he gave instructions on fighting the virus on January 7 and ordered the shutdown that began on January 23 of cities at the epicenter of the outbreak.
World Health Organisation chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said on Saturday it was impossible to tell where the epidemic will spread.
Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe convened an experts meeting to discuss measures to contain the virus in his country, where more than a dozen cases have emerged in the past few days without any obvious link to China. As of now, there are over 71,000 cases of coronavirus confirmed and the death toll is of 1,776 people worldwide.
On Sunday, Hubei announced new measures, including province-wide traffic restrictions on all non-emergency vehicles and the closure of all non-essential public venues.
At the same time, however, cities and provinces most affected by the outbreak are facing stringent new controls, on top of existing lockdowns which have left people trapped inside their homes and unable to work.
A circular by the provincial government said the health screening campaign should be strengthened and no one should be missed. They will be tested and placed under a 14-day quarantine.
The pair constituted Taiwan's first local transmission cases, Mr Chen said, adding that the authorities were trying to find out as soon as possible the source of contraction.
