Hold on to your fedoras, because storm clouds are brewing over the long-delayed production of Indiana Jones 5.
Steven Spielberg is handing the director's chair over to another filmmaker for the forthcoming fifth Indiana Jones flick, according to Variety. This will be the first time in 39 years that Spielberg will not act as director of an Indy delivery, and it is said that LOGAN and FORD V FERRARI's assistant, James Mangold, are in talks to break the whip as the new project director.
Indy 5 was initially set to open on July 19, 2019 earlier than it was was pushed a 12 months to July 10, 2020.
It's been 12 years since the last Indiana Jones movie, which itself came nearly 20 years after the third entry in the series.
Mangold, who recently directed the Matt Damon and Christian Bale racing flick Ford vs. Ferrari, is in talks to replace Spielberg on Indiana Jones 5.
Or maybe its time to hand over to a new director and get some new life in the flagging series, although Harrison Ford will certainly play Indiana Jones despite the fact he is pushing 80.
The 77-year-old sat down with CBS to reveal shooting on the sequel will start "in about two months", confirming he'd be reprising his iconic role to quash any rumours that someone new might take up the mantle.
Wait I'm sorry, I've been informed that there was a fourth Indiana Jones film where he fought or met ... aliens? We all assumed that if Harrison Ford was coming back, Steven Spielberg would be right by his side. Whether or not either of those claims are actually true doesn't seem to matter anymore as a change in director is sure to push the project back even more.
Indie got the reboot treatment once more in 2008 with Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull, which was slammed by fans and critics. The latest announcement states that the film will now hit the big screen on July 9, 2021.
We'll maintain you up to date as we hear extra about what form Indiana Jones 5 will ultimately take.
Instead, it's being described as a continuation (you'd think Harrison Ford starring would be a giveaway but you never know nowadays what these companies are planning).
