Roger Mayweather - uncle and long-time trainer of undefeated boxing great Floyd - has died at the age of 58.
That was when Roger Mayweather entered the ring and went after Judah for hitting Floyd below the belt in an instance that showed just how close the uncle and his nephew were.
After his boxing career, Roger became a trainer for his nephew, Floyd Jr., who is 50-0 and arguably the best boxer in history. "Unfortunately, his health was failing him for several years and now he can finally rest in peace", Mayweather Jr said in a statement. Mayweather was an excellent boxer himself, a two-time world champion nicknamed "Black Mamba", who had bouts with Julio Cesar Chavez and Ray "Boom Boom" Mancini.
Roger and Floyd Mayweather work out together in 2007.
He retired in 1999 with a 59-13 record. Floyd came back in 2017 for a non-title bout against MMA fighter Conor McGregor.
"We thank you all for the outpouring of love and support during this time".
Mayweather's father, Floyd has taken to social media to confirm the death of his younger brother.
"Roger's spirit lives on with us forever", "Money" added. "We hope you keep Floyd and the entire Mayweather family in your thoughts and prayers during this time". Just last Tuesday, the mother of three of his children, Josie Harris, took her own life and was found in her vehicle outside her California home.
The boxing icon has since posted a series of tributes to his former partner on his social media accounts.
The news of Roger's passing Tuesday comes a week after Mayweather Jr.'s ex-girlfriend and the mother of his three children, Josie Harris, died last Tuesday at the age of 40.
