Spain's medical facilities are under great stress as hospitals across the country have been overwhelmed by cases and a skating rink in Madrid has been turned into a makeshift morgue. Iran reported 2,206 new Coronavirus cases in last 24 hours raising the total number to 27,017.
With 3,434 coronavirus patients dead, Spain surpassed China's death toll of 3,285. Spain has the highest death toll after Italy which as reported nearly twice the number of deaths in China.
The Mediterranean country's daily death toll shot back up to 743 after two days of slight decline from a world-record peak of 793 on Saturday.
Spain announced that it reports 738 new deaths from the new coronavirus, "Covid 19", within 24 hours, taking the total number to 3434 deaths.
Meanwhile in Britain, Prince Charles, the heir to the British throne, has tested positive for the new coronavirus.
The State of Alarm imposed a virtual lockdown in Spain with people only allowed out of their home to go to work if they were unable to work from home, to purchase essential supplies, visit the pharmacy or to care for the elderly or vulnerable. A 54-year old man who had tested positive for Coronavirus was undergoing treatment in government-owned Rajaji Hospital in Madhurai before he passed away.
The slowing contagion rate is offering a ray of hope in the midst of a global crisis that is deepening in parts of Europe and the United States.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average surged 11.3 percent on Tuesday, its biggest rally since 1933 during the Great Depression, and was followed by huge jumps on Wednesday on Asian markets and a more mixed response in Europe. In China's Hubei province, where the outbreak was first spotted late a year ago, started lifting its lockdown. A similar easing in the hard-hit epicenter of Wuhan is planned for April 8.
Aside from the devastating health impact, the lockdown has dealt a punishing blow to the Spanish economy, with tens of thousands of workers temporarily laid off as sectors like retail, tourism and manufacturing grind to a halt.
Russia's prime minister ordered provincial governors to move more quickly to ready hospital beds for patients as the outbreak spreads across the vast country, and President Vladimir Putin ordered the military to train for helping handle the pandemic.
Spain's government declared a state of emergency in early March, confining residents to their homes.
