The lack of sports caused by the global pandemic has brought everyone's eyes to the "The Last Dance" and Michael Jordan's career. Needless to say, it's been a source of entertainment and distraction in the midst of the pandemic.
At the time it was reported Jordan had "flu-like symptoms" in Game 5 of the 1997 NBA Finals against the Utah Jazz. He also expanded on a story that Smith recently told during a radio interview with San Francisco's KNBR about Jordan instructing a flight attendant not to serve a post-game meal to Grant because he had a bad performance during his rookie season. The former Pizza Hut worker says he followed all the food prep guidelines and even went with the driver to ensure the pizza was delivered safely.
As for the pizza, he said it was a thin crust pepperoni pizza.
"I would say it was entertaining, but we know, who was there as teammates, that about 90% of it was BS in terms of the realness of it", Grant said. That's as far as the exchange went, Fite said, after venturing through security checkpoints en route to the hotel room. He quickly added that no one else got sick from anything prepared from his store that day.
"I said, 'I'm not as much in love with you as these other guys". Yes, a lot of the behind-the-scenes footage from locker rooms and planes, kept in the vault all that time, was wonderful, and looking back I'm not sure what I expected considering the role Jordan played in clearing the documentary to be made.
Craig Fite insists there was nothing wrong with the pizza that night and claimed nobody at the store knew it was going to Jordan.
"Did you get it diagnosed? All this is innuendo on their part", Fite said. "I would never put anything personal out there", Grant said.
There was no conspiracy, Fite said, no purposeful poisoning of the pizza. They had windows open.
Horace Grant, who won three titles alongside Jordan with the Chicago Bulls, said the documentary was edited to make Jordan look better. "If you want to call somebody a snitch, that's a damn snitch right there". The result would be a remarkable portrait of an iconic player and a celebrated team - a portrait only now being revealed more than two decades later in "The Last Dance". And I kept hitting him and banging him, hitting him and banging him, and it took a toll on Mike.
Grant, who spent seven years with the Bulls, is accused by Jordan of leaking stories for "The Jordan Rules", a book that sometimes painted the Hall of Famer in an unflattering light, in the documentary, something Grant vehemently denies.
