Super Pink Moon of April 7, 2020, shining bright behind the India Gate in the capital city. To get the full scoop, I turned to the AstroTwins, Ophi and Tali Edut, who broke down all there is to know about the full moon's meaning, full moon rituals, and when exactly this is all going down.
This year's pink moon will be especially bold and attractive as it also a supermoon, meaning it is passing Earth near the closest point in its orbit while 100 percent illuminated. During these events, the Moon can appear significantly larger in the night sky, and up to 15% brighter than a standard full moon.
The pink moon is also a supermoon.
The supermoon, known to astronomers as a perigee-syzygy moon, occurs when a full moon happens at the same time when the moon reaches the point of its orbit closest to Earth. The Super Pink Moon can be seen in India on April 7 after sunset, but it will be fully illuminated in the sky at 8:05 AM IST. That's the closest the Moon will be to Earth all year, so this supermoon is the one you definitely won't want to miss. In short, a supermoon is visible when the Moon is closest to the earth.
