While the total number of COVID-19 cases in the world is close to crossing the ten million mark as per the John Hopkins University, India on Sunday witnessed a spike of 19,906 cases in last 24 hours, bringing the total tally to 5,28,859, according to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
Arunachal Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand and Uttarakhand have reported one COVID-19 fatality each in the last 24 hours.
Tamil Nadu, which is ranked third on India's coronavirus list, has reported 74,622 cases and 957 deaths. The high number of cases are being attributed to increased testing by the state government.
"The GoM was also informed about the medical infrastructure in the country, and now there is an availability of 1,039 dedicated COVID hospitals with 1,76,275 isolation beds, 22,940 ICU beds and 77,268 oxygen-supported beds; 2,398 dedicated COVID health centres with 1,39,483 isolation beds, 11,539 ICU beds and 51,321 oxygen-supported beds have also been operationalised".
"This has led to the recovery rate touching 58.24 per cent", the ministry said.
India conducted 2,15,446 Covid-19 tests in the last 24 hours.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday showered praise on Yogi Adityanath for his handling of COVID-19 pandemic. The death toll in the city now stands at 2,492.
- Andhra Pradesh has reported 12,285 coronavirus cases, and 6,648 patients are still under treatment.
Maharashtra has reported the highest number of cases at 1,47,741, followed by Delhi at 73,780, Tamil Nadu at 70,977, Gujarat at 29,520, Uttar Pradesh at 20,193, Rajasthan at 16,296 and West Bengal at 15,648, according to the ministry data.
The worst-hit coronavirus states - Delhi, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra - will received the first batch of the generic version of the experimental COVID-19 drug Remdesivir, which is being manufactured in India by Hyderabad-based drugmaker Hetero. There are 65,829 active cases in the State. 796 new cases were reported on June 27.
Mizoram has 148 cases, Sikkim has 87, Andaman and Nicobar Islands has registered 72 infections so far while Meghalaya has recorded 47 cases.
Telangana recorded 985 cases, discharged 78 patients and reported seven deaths in the last 24 hours.
