He infiltrated a rally organised by a U.S. far-right group the Washington State Three Percenters over the weekend and comprehensively tricked the crowd. Then he began singing a catchy song whose lyrics included racist language and anti-Semitic conspiracy theories popular among far-right extremists.
Captioning the now-viral video, Rex said: "Dressed as a hillbilly, Sasha Baron Cohen infiltrated a rally being held by "The Washington State Three Percenters" - a right wing militia group - and took over the stage".
"Dr Fauci, what we gonna do?/Inject him with the Wuhan flu.../Hillary Clinton, what we gonna do?/Lock her up like we used to do". "Hillary Clinton, what we gonna do?"
According to event organizers, Cohen initially disguised himself as the head of a political action committee that wanted to sponsor the rally. / Inject him with the Wuhan flu / World Health Organization, what we gonna do?
Cohen's latest comedy figure also convinced the crowd to sing about journalists and how they should "chop them up like the Saudis do" - a reference to the death of Jamal Khashoggi, who was assassinated at the Saudi consulate in Turkey in 2018.
While event organiser Matt Marshall said he was offended by the stunt, other commentators have not been so quick to cancel Cohen.
After video footage spread on social media, Variety later confirmed that the singer was in fact Baron Cohen. A city councilman who was present spoke on the performance, saying, "He came on stage disguised as the lead singer of the last band, singing a bunch of racist, hateful, disgusting s**t".
The councilman went on to allege that Cohen was whisked away in a "private ambulance that was contracted to be their escape route" after the crowd caught on and turned on him.
After organisers cottoned on to the stunt, they attempted to take him off stage and unplug the power, but Cohen was one step ahead with a team of security guarding the generator.
