This won Outstanding Original Song in a Children's, Young Adult or Animated Program, which Menken shared with lyricist Glenn Slater.

Only 16 people in history have achieved EGOT status, and Disney Legend Alan Menken has finally joined their ranks. His 11 Grammy awards come from songs he wrote for the same films.

Menken's far-reaching work for Disney has defined a generation of musicals, but it was his 1982 Off-Broadway collaboration with Ashman on Little Shop of Horrors that still resonates among theater fans. Eden Espinosa and Hudson D'Andrea performed the song on the show.

San Francisco's Walt Disney Family Museum will celebrate Alan Menken earning EGOT status with a virtual fundraiser celebrating the Beauty and the Beast and Little Mermaid composer's career, featuring special guest Lin-Manuel Miranda.

The 71-year-old composer's infectiously catchy soundtrack for popular 1989 animated musical movie, The Little Mermaid, earned him two Oscars in 1990 and a Grammy the following year.

He also won his first Tony in 2012 for an original score in Broadway's Newsies.

This year's Daytime Emmy Awards aired on CBS.

Menken is an extremely organized composer of the industry who has so far won eight Oscars and eleven Grammys.

Previous EGOT winners include Rita Moreno, Audrey Hepburn, Mel Brooks, Mike Nichols, Whoopi Goldberg and, most recently, John Legend, Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber.
