Apart from that, while Daimler was quoted saying in a statement in the joint presentation on Tuesday that companies would join forces to develop an advanced artificial intelligence alongside automated vehicle applications in order to proffer an upscaled experience of automated driving, expressing a through and through optimism over the recent Daimler deal to develop an advanced-level automated driving software system for the future Mercedez-benz vehicles, the Nvidia Corp.
The popular auto manufacturer known as Mercedes-Benz along with the chipmaker known as Nvidia has recently partnered up to build a cutting-edge software-defined computing infrastructure and a new system that will enable vehicles to rapidly receive the over-the-air software updates in order to ensure that they are equipped with the newest autonomous features. That's why Nvidia and Mercedes-Benz are teaming up to create a "revolutionary in-vehicle computing system" for next-gen luxury vehicles.
"NVIDIA's AI computing architecture will help us streamline our journey towards autonomous driving", said Ola Kallenius, Head of Mercedes-Benz AG.
A key feature will be the ability of cars to drive themselves on regular routes from one address to another, the companies said.
Other carmakers are racing to catch up, but must transition from legacy engineering platforms to newer electrical architectures capable of supporting the huge computing needs of automated driving technology.
NVIDIA and Mercedes-Benz have a longstanding relationship, the two companies announcing multiple partnerships throughout the years.
"The electric architecture that comes later this year with the new S Class makes that domain so much wider".
Break ups are hard, but Mercedes isn't wasting any time as they've teamed with NVIDIA less than a week after halting an autonomous driving partnership with BMW. "These new capabilities and upgrades will be downloaded from the cloud, improving safety, increasing value and extending the joy of ownership for all Mercedes-Benz customers".
The Orin SoC integrates NVIDIA's next-generation GPU architecture and Arm Hercules CPU cores.
The deal is a high-profile vote of confidence in Nvidia's Drive AGX product line."This is the biggest partnership ever announced in the automobile industry", Huang said. The project kickstarted in 2019 in which they pledged to work on autonomous cars at level 4.
As for how that will be done, the duo plans to offer over-the-air updates.
NVIDIA's other automotive customers include Toyota, Audi, Tesla and Volvo.
