"The introduction of stage 4 restrictions by the Victorian Government will have a severe economic impact on the Victorian and Australian economy".
"As we have said all along, we will continue to do what is necessary to cushion the blow and help Australians get to the other side".
"Australia is facing a situation that is constantly changing. Our response is to get the right support to all those Australian families, workers and businesses that need us, as these circumstances change".
Businesses will only need to show that their GST turnover had fallen over one quarter, instead of multiple, to be eligible for the scheme's extension.
"The reason for this change is that some businesses as they were opening up and progress was made on the health front, they took on new employees and those employees will now be eligible for JobKeeper, which will again provide additional relief to businesses".
There are more than 153,000 Queensland businesses on JobKeeper already, and now more of them will be qualify to stay on the payment after September under the revised rules.
"This means more support for more workers and more businesses for longer, as we battle this latest Victorian wave".
Almost half the workers at private firms in Australia's Victoria state, around 1.5 million people, will receive a federal wage subsidy as a surge of coronavirus cases forces a near total lockdown in the state, Treasurer Josh Frydenberg said on Friday.
"This takes into account that some businesses through May, June, and April did okay, but obviously with the Stage 4 restrictions, particularly in Victoria, through the months of July, August and September it's going to be very hard, and these businesses will now be eligible for the payment".
Staff who were employed as of July 1 will now be able to access the program.
The payment is now $1500 a fortnight but will reduce to $1200 for full-time employees from October to December.
"The federal government's commitment "to keep Australians in jobs and businesses in business" will give small businesses a much-needed confidence boost at this very hard time".
