The unions requested that Kumar must be immediately replaced with a suitable candidate with substantial knowledge of the aviation sector and operational experience as his recent comments reveal a total lack of technical know-how and an "amateurish view" of the Kozhikode plane crash. Following the plane crash, the consulate had directed relatives of the victims in Dubai to contact the consulate if they wished to return home.

The 30-member team will be headed by Malappuram Additional Superintendent of Police G Sabu, a government release said. About 125 injured were admitted to hospitals. After the accident, a Saudi Airlines flight from Jeddah to Karipur was rescheduled to the Nedumbassery airport while an Air India Jumbo service was temporarily cancelled.
Upon reaching Mumbai, the mortal remains were kept at the Air India facility near Terminal 2 of the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport to help staff pay their tributes. Wide-body aircraft operations were permitted at this airport from 2019.
Later, the DGCA gave permission to Air India, Saudia and Emirates, Etihad and Qatar Airways to resume operations of wide-bodied aircrafts with conditions in 2018. Only Saudia (Saudi Arabian Airlines), which had secured a No Objection Certificate in December 2018, operated Haj flights with its wide-bodied aircraft. "Provision of EMAS at Mangalore and Kozhikode were examined by AAI in consultation with DGCA, subsequent to the Air India Express accident at Mangalore in 2010".
