Defined by their hollow bones and three-toed feet, the theropods were a group of dinosaurs that counted Tyrannosaurus rex among their ranks. There are four additional bones found in the past year that is believed to belong to the same dinosaur who is now located. These may have helped the T-Rex relative to fuel an efficient breathing system while making the skeleton lighter than other dinosaurs. He said that the skeleton's parts must have been delicate.
" The document of theropod dinosaurs coming from the "the middle of" Cretaceous time period in Europe isn't that wonderful, so it is actually been actually actually impressive to become capable to enhance our understanding of the variety of dinosaur varieties coming from this moment".
Also, he says that it is also uncommon to find fossils from Shanklin deposits because they were formed in a saltwater habitat.
This study confirmed that those separate bones were likely from the same dinosaur, which probably lived north of where its bones were found; the researchers speculate the carcass had washed out into the shallow sea nearby.
Researchers working on the Isle of Wight have discovered a new species of dinosaur and potentially a whole new genus.
The University of Southampton study confirmed all three finds were likely from the same individual dinosaur, bolstered by the location and timing of the discoveries.
"The joy of finding the bones we found out was certainly great", Robin Ward, an newbie fossil hunter who observed a single of the fossils, advised the university.
"It seemed diverse from marine reptile vertebrae I have occur throughout in the earlier", James Lockyer, who identified another 1 of the fossils, instructed the university.

Paul Farrell, from the Isle of Wight town of Ryde, was one of the individuals who discovered the bones. "You're far more most likely to discover fossil shellfishes or even drift timber, therefore this is actually an uncommon discover certainly".
"Although we have enough material to be able to determine the general type of dinosaur, we'd ideally like to find more to refine our analysis. Fossil seekers must always keep in mind to catch to the foreshore, as well as prevent going near the high cliffs which are actually amongst the very most unpredictable on the Island". They named the discovery a "scarce find". The fossils were handed over to the Dinosaur Isle Museum at nearby Sandown.
A display explaining the new find is due to be on show in the main gallery of the museum from Wednesday 12 August. He was shocked to find that it may be a new dinosaur species.
They will now be displayed at the museum. The authors and University of Southampton have made their findings 'open access'.
