This would be the first time two hurricanes occur in the Gulf of Mexico at the same time, which could happen Monday or Tuesday as the storms intensify. The storm is then expected to move along the north coast of Hispaniola by the early hours of Sunday morning and on towards eastern Cuba.
On the forecast track, the center of Marco will approach the east coast of the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico on Saturday.
The Tropical Storm Warning related to Laura was discontinued for the island as of noon on Saturday, officials said. That year, a category three hurricane made landfall near Brownsville, Texas, while a tropical storm struck Cedar Key, Florida.
The Atlantic tropical season has been an active one, with 13 named storms so far. The NHC says it will either disintegrate or it might blow up into a major hurricane that could hit Florida by Monday or Tuesday and then the Gulf Coast. Wind shear- especially from an upper level system to the north is close enough to impact Laura.
Tropical Storm Marco continued to strengthen on Saturday as it marched past the Yucatán Peninsula and took aim at the central Texas coast.
Tropical Storm Marco has winds of 45 mph Saturday morning and is about 115 miles east southeast of Cozumel, Mexico.
The last time two storms plied the Gulf together was 1959. While we are under the cone of uncertainty, keep in mind the cone shows the potential center of the storm, so the center could end up over the Bahamas or even as far southwest of Cuba.
It seems fitting for such an unusual twin threat to arrive in 2020, said University of Miami hurricane researcher Brian McNoldy.
"Obviously, we must have two concurrently land-falling shots," McNoldy stated. 'It's best not to ask what's next'.
The storm's long-term forecast track has it turning into a hurricane approaching Alabama and the western Florida Panhandle early Wednesday morning. Computer prediction models diverse so significantly that some watched Laura turned into a significant storm nearing the USA, although some viewed it sporadically.
Where does Laura go?
Marco is located near Cancun, Mexico.
Monroe County declared a State of Local Emergency and ordered the evacuations of all live-aboard vessels, mobile homes, recreational vehicles, travel trailers, and campers in anticipation of the storm. "It is too soon to know exactly where, when or how these dual storms will affect Louisiana, but now is the time for our people to prepare for these storms", he said in a statement.
Tropical Storm Laura and Tropical Storm Marco are both expected to travel towards the Gulf of Mexico in the next few days, with both storms likely to impact parts of the USA coast by the early half of next week.
