Jutta Urpilainen, Commissioner for worldwide partnerships, said: "Only by securing equitable access to a COVID-19 vaccine across the world will we end the pandemic and ensure a sustainable recovery; working with our partner countries is crucial so that we can build back better and healthier".
Russian Health Minister Mikhail Murashko said that Russia will launch the large-scale vaccination of people who are especially vulnerable to COVID-19 in November or December.
The agreements bring the maximum vaccine doses that could be made available to Canadians to 190 million, after similar arrangements were made with Pfizer and Moderna. The federal government has a deal with a third vaccine developer to get access to their experimental COVID-19 vaccine as early as next spring.
The deal is the latest example of countries rushing to secure access to vaccines, and comes weeks after Canada signed separate deals with Pfizer Inc and Moderna Inc.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced it has reached agreements with Novavax and Johnson and Johnson.
"Procedures, including pre-tests, informed consent, and administration of the vaccine, are carried out face-to-face while online tools and an ePRO solution will be used for additional informed consent and reporting of the participants' health conditions", the company said.

The agreements will be studied by a panel of Philippine vaccine experts, which will determine if Phase 3 trials for Sputnik 5 can be done in the Philippines before the end of the year. However, the vaccine doses were mostly distributed after the main transmission periods and when countries were already in the post- pandemic phase. NVX-CoV2373 is now in Phase II trials to evaluate the safety and immunogenicity in the US and Australia. Phase 2 clinical trials began in August.
Through a public-private partnership, the new building will enable the National Research Council of Canada (NRC) to increase vaccine manufacturing to up to two million doses per month by 2021.
