Although she took no names, her remarks come a day after Ravi Kishan remarks about drug addiction in the film industry and actor Kangana's repeated statements against Bollywood, including calling it a "gutter".
On the second day of the Monsoon Session of the Parliament, Bachchan spoke in the Rajya Sabha about the online harassment of actors and celebrities. "People who made their names in the industry have called it a 'gutter.' I completely disagree". Previously, Kangana had called the film industry a "gutter" and alleged that 99 per cent of the people who work in it have been exposed to drugs. There is an appeal to the government to tell such people not to use such language.
"I was really embarrassed and ashamed that yesterday (September 14) one of our members in the Lok Sabha, who is from the industry, spoke. If there is a national calamity, they come forward, they give money and their services", she said.
Meanwhile, Kangana Ranaut has responded to Jaya Bachchan with a tweet asking whether the veteran actress would have maintained her stand if her son Abhishek and daughter Shweta would have been targeted. "It's a shame. Jis thaali mein khaate hain usi mein chhed karte hain [It is akin to biting the hand that feeds you]".
In a series of tweets, Kangana Ranaut has pointed out the lack of proper amenities in production houses, adding she has a list of reforms she'd like the central government to implement for junior artistes in the movie business.
She also blasted BJP parliamentarian Ravi Kishan, a noted Bhojpuri and Hindi film actor, for his statement on Monday. "The industry provides jobs to 5 lakh people, if some people are trying to finish this off, then they should be stopped". I think the government must support this industry and not kill it. "When Jaya ji joined, the situation was not like this but now we need to protect the industry", he added.
Kishan, who won the last Lok Sabha elections, had said that the neighbouring countries were involved in a conspiracy to destroy India's young generation. "Show compassion for us also".
