Apple will launch its first online store in India next week, the Silicon Valley giant said on Friday, hoping to cash in on the country's festive season and grow its tiny share of the booming market. Although Apple products have been sold through e-commerce stores like Amazon or Flipkart, it was reported last month by Bloomberg that Apple was working to get its own store online before Diwali. Apple has today announced that it is launching the official online Apple Store in India.
With Apple Store online, customers will get assistance from Apple Specialists, who will help them choose the right products and set them up.
From learning more about product features to setting up new devices, customers can receive guidance directly from Apple, including online support in English and phone support in Hindi and English.
"We're proud to be expanding in India and want to do all we can to support our customers and their communities", Deirdre O'Brien, senior vice president of Retail + People at Apple said in a press statement making the announcement.
And in view of the ongoing global coronavirus pandemic, the Apple Store online will adopt the policy of contactless delivery without any additional cost. Apple will provide free, no-contact delivery on these products.
Apple is also offering "signature" gift wrap and personalized engraving on select products. Students can shop for a Mac or iPad with special pricing, and receive discounts on accessories and AppleCare+. Customers will also be able to purchase Apple Care+ extended warranty from its online store.
The iPhone-maker will also offer various financing options along with trade-in programs. It will be interesting to see what kind of response Apple India online store will get initially. On contrary, the order that will require a signature will instead make use of the verbal confirmation from a safe distance.
Anyone purchasing an iMac 25-inch, iMac 27-inch, iMac Pro, Mac Pro, Mac Mini, MacBook Air, MacBook Pro 13 or the MacBook Pro 16 will also be able to take advantage of the Configure to Order option, which will allow you to pick and add upgrades for specifications such as processor, RAM, storage and graphics.
Engraving of emoji or text will be available in English, Bengali, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Marathi, Tamil, and Telugu languages on AirPods, whereas engraving on iPad and Apple Pencil will be only available in English. It is also building the first company-run retail store in Mumbai that will open next year.
