The MAC is returning to play in November of 2020, sources told Yahoo Sports, which means that all 10 FBS conferences will be playing college football this fall. In the email he said that access to rapid antigen testing for COVID-19, made available through the MAC, made the difference in his decision.
The return of the MAC represents the symbolic return of college football in its near entirety, as a sport that at one point in August faced almost 40 percent of its teams pulling out of the season is now close to playing in full.
The conference championship game will be held the weekend of December 18-19. Players will be required to take four COVID-19 tests per week, with a full set of protocols to be released next week.
The MAC will play a six-game season, starting Wednesday, Nov. 4.
"Our decisions, in August and again today, have been guided by an overriding concern for the well-being of the student athletes, institutions, and the community at large", Commissioner Jon Steinbrecher said.
A few key contributors from last year's team declared for the 2021 NFL Draft last month after the original decision to postpone the season, including Emmanuel Rugamba, Danny Godlevske and Tommy Doyle. Football is the only sport being resumed with all others (soccer, cross country, volleyball) tentatively scheduled to return during the spring sports season when their respective NCAA Championships will occur. There will be no general public attendance or tailgating permitted at the games this fall, according to the league.
