In New York, a jury convicted Weinstein on February 24 of two out of five criminal charges: one count of criminal sexual assault in the first degree and one count of rape in the third degree.
Los Angeles County prosecutors on Friday charged disgraced Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein with six additional sexual assault counts involving two more alleged victims.
The incidents span from 2004 to 2010 and all allegedly took place at a hotel in Beverly Hills.
The new charges announced on Friday include three felony counts each of forcible rape and forcible oral copulation.
If convicted of the new charges in Los Angeles, Weinstein would face up to 140 additional years in prison.
In total, the Los Angeles District Attorney's Office has filed 11 counts against Weinstein.
Los Angeles District Attorney Jackie Lacey said in the statement, "I am thankful to the first women who reported these crimes and whose courage have given strength to others to come forward".
Prosecutors want Weinstein temporarily transferred to their custody in L.A. An extradition hearing has been set for December 11 in Buffalo.
If it's an emergency and you feel that you or someone else is at risk, call 111.
The woman, Lauren Young, later testified about the allegation at Weinstein's criminal trial in New York City. The complaint was amended in April to add a charge that the defendant allegedly sexually assaulted a woman at a Beverly Hills hotel in May 2010.
Weinstein now stands charged with four counts of rape, four counts of forcible oral copulation, two counts of sexual battery by restraint, and one count of sexual penetration by use of force. He was originally accused of sexually assaulting two women in separate attacks in 2013, prosecutors said.
Prosecutors in Los Angeles are attempting to put Weinstein on trial on the West Coast and are seeking temporary custody of the convicted rapist from NY.
Weinstein spokesman Juda Engelmayer said, "Harvey Weinstein has always maintained that every one of his physical encounters throughout his entire life have been consensual". His extradition to Los Angeles has faced repeated delays due to the pandemic. "At this moment we can not comment on the additional charges until we learn more about them".
A criminal investigation was launched in NY in late 2017, but Weinstein was not charged until May 2018 when he turned himself in to police.
