Talk Radio's Mike Graham took aim at Piers Morgan for going ahead with the interview when it was clear Tyson was in no state.
But it appears Tyson has now put those anxious viewers at ease after issuing an official apology via Twitter explaining his reasons for looking (and sounding) so drowsy.
Iron Mike's behaviour caused fans on social media to speculate about his wellbeing, however the former world heavyweight champion has insisted he was simply exhausted.
The clarification would certainly tally with the training regime Tyson has frequently shared with fans on his social media accounts as he sharpens his skills in the run-up to his contest with 51-year-old Jones Jr, which is scheduled for California on November 28.
After some early technical issues, Tyson greeted Morgan and Reid with an overabundance of "peace" signs before ignoring some questions and answering others in very awkward fashion. We could see you were a bit tired! He went on acknowledging that the interview could be hard for Mike to endure due to the different time zone, adding, "We could see you were a bit tired!"
Piers Morgan replied to Mike on Twitter - saying, "No problem, Champ. Appreciate this message as some viewers were concerned".
Speaking on the show about the upcoming bout, Tyson said: "I am just ready to do this, I feel really good, I am ready to do this".
The whole scene was very unusual. and it had everyone wondering - is Iron Mike OK???
