Dr. Abdullatif Al Khal, Chair of the National Health Strategic Group on Covid-19 and Head of Infectious Diseases at Hamad Medical Corporation said, "taking the flu vaccine is more important this year amid the Coronavirus Pandemic".
"Getting vaccinated against the flu may also reduce the number of individuals who need COVID-19 testing, as the symptoms are very similar", said Dubey.
"While the flu and COVID-19 are two different viruses, it is important to ensure you are protected against the seasonal flu this year", Dr. Al Khal said addressing a press conference held yesterday to launch the seasonal flu campaign at the Medical City.
The annual seasonal flu vaccination campaign is a joint initiative of the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH), the Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC) and HMC.

Public health officials have moved to reassure the public vaccinations will be available before the flu season is in full swing.
With COVID-19 on the top of everyone's mind, the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit is reminding residents not to forget to get a flu shot.
"We are confident in the current supply levels for the flu vaccine", said spokesperson Andrew Forgione.
In the province, we're distributing several types of influenza vaccines.
"When people pay attention when they wash their hands whatever measures we put in place to stop the spread of coronavirus will absolutely work as well for the flu", he said.
Dr. Wajid Ahmed is encouraging everyone in the community to get the flu shot, especially those who are high risk.
Every year in Canada, about 3,500 deaths are linked to the influenza virus or about 1 per cent of confirmed flu cases.
"If we could prevent that and have less fibril illnesses because people have gotten the flu shot, it will just make it that much easier to deal with schools, work, things like that and prevent so much disruption", said the doctor.
