President Xi Jinping on Friday marked the 70th anniversary of China's entry into the Korean War to fight against U.S. troops by taking a jab at Washington as he condemned "unilateralism, protectionism and extreme egoism".
Earlier Friday morning, Xi gave a 42-minute speech to mark the country's participation in what it calls the "War to resist US aggression and aid [North] Korea", sending a message to Washington that it is not intimidated by USA power.

"The Chinese people mean that we should speak to the invaders in a language they understand", Xi said.

And while Xi did not directly mention the U.S.in Friday's speech, he instead repeated his call to expedite the modernisation of China's defence and armed forces.

Despite having no claim to any part of the region, Mr Pompeo tweeted: "The United States' policy is crystal clear: the South China Sea is not China's maritime empire".
In addition to helping that the Korean people resist the United States aggression, the Chinese army "won a great victory" and thwarted the aggression plans against the young People's Republic of China, the president stated.
Xi did not directly refer to the U.S., whose ties with China have sunk to their lowest in decades amid escalating disputes with the administration of President Donald Trump.
"The Chinese people understood that you must use the language that invaders can understand - to fight war with war and to stop an invasion with force, earning peace and respect through victory".
By commemorating the anniversary "China is declaring to the U.S. that it was not afraid of the USA in the past, and is still not afraid of the United States now", said Shi Yinhong, professor of worldwide politics at Renmin University.
Xi, who is also commander-in-chief of China's People's Liberation Army, warned that while Beijing wanted peace it would not back down from a fight. After the victory, the Chinese were finally able to remove the label of being "the sick of East Asia' ", he pointed out.
Shu Jian, a professor with the National Defense University, hailed the CPV's victory in the war "a world-class victory" that brought a fundamental change in the worldwide status of China after lagging behind in development and being vulnerable to aggression for more than 100 years.
"Xi is invoking the spirit of war in a broad sense".
Xi urged pooling national strength, fostering China's national valor, and keeping to right path and making innovations.

President Xi Jinping said on Friday China will never allow its national sovereignty, security and development interests to be undermined.
"Backwardness begets being bullied, and only through development can we strengthen ourselves", Xi said Friday.
"Unilateralism, protectionism and extreme egoism will never work".
He also said China will never allow any forces to violate or separate its sacred territory, and that it will hit back if grave situations occur.
