The first weekend of June is kicking off with the full Strawberry Moon on Friday.
Usually, there are two eclipses in an eclipse season-one of the sun and one of the moon.
"Unlike a full lunar or solar eclipse, the visual effect of a penumbral eclipse is usually so minimal that it can be hard to perceive at all!"
Today is World Environment Day 2020 and coincidentally the universe is treating us with the attractive sight of a lunar eclipse. You'll also hear it referred to as the Mead Moon, Honey Moon, Rose Moon and Hot Moon. This is not because of the moon's pink colour as many would wrongly assume, but rather due to a North American tradition, as per the experts.
Awesome photos of full moon tonight in Johannesburg. The moon will continue to look full from early Thursday morning through early Sunday morning. Some parts of South America, Pacific and Antarctica will also be able to see this astronomical event.
Would you notice anything was amiss with the Moon during mid-penumbral eclipse, if you didn't know better?
A penumbral lunar eclipse will be visible in Pakistan starting on the night of June 5 (Friday) and concluding in the early hours of June 6 (Saturday), according to a statement issued by the Meteorological Department.
The total duration is three hours and 19 minutes.
More than likely, the Full Moon on June 5, 2020, will appear the usual pearly-gray to most locations in North America.
Full moon is an astronomical phenomenon that occurs when Moon is on the opposite side of Earth from the Sun and we can see Moon's Earth-facing side fully-lit. The color of the Moon near mid-eclipse may take on a tea-colored appearance, instead of its usual pearly, bone-white hue. "If the eclipses are going to take up in the beginning or end of the season, the chances that they are going to be total eclipses are very slim", he explains. It will encompass the months of November and December.
