Almost 600 more fatalities in the past 24 hours brought the death toll to 1,31,638.
On Wednesday, India reported 45,576 new Covid-19 cases, a significant increase from the 29,154 infections recorded on Monday.
Notably, Delhi and Kerala continued to report a high number of daily cases.
Delhi: 5,03,084 total cases, 7,943 deaths, 4,52,683 recoveries. The health updates released by the government on official portal showed that the recovery rate in India stood at nearly 94%. For the past three consecutive days, India had been reporting under 40,000 daily cases.
According to Delhi government health bulletin, the death toll due to Covid-19 climbed to 8,270 as 111 deaths were reported in the last 24 hours. It also said 10 states and Union territories accounted for 77.28 per cent of the fresh cases in the country.
Of the 585 new deaths, Delhi reported the most 131 deaths, followed by Maharashtra (100), West Bengal (54), Punjab (31) and Haryana (30). "The number of cases is also coming down and the positivity rate, which is the biggest indicator, is also falling down", Jain said.
3,668 new cases in West Bengal pushed the state's tally to 4,41,885.
According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), a total of 129.5 million samples were tested for coronavirus in the country till 19 November, of which 10.83 lakh samples were tested yesterday.
The curfew, which begins at 9.00pm and ends at 6.00am, will be in force until further notice, said Rajiv Kumar Gupta, the senior government official in charge of managing Covid-19 in Ahmedabad.
Globally, there are 58,494,754 cases and 1,386,570 deaths reported in the last 24 hours.
