The study has raised hopes that the protection conferred by coronavirus vaccines could last for years, and that an annual jab may not be required. "We also identified the specific cytokines that activate inflammatory cell death pathways and have considerable potential for treatment of COVID-19 and other highly fatal diseases, including sepsis", she said in the release.
Isolated cases of re-infection with COVID-19, the disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus, had raised concerns that immunity might be short-lived and that recovered patients may swiftly fall sick again. They found that 89 of eleven-thousand-52 staff who did not have antibodies developed a new infection with symptoms, while none of the over 12-hundred staff who had antibodies developed a symptomatic infection.
But the results of the study, conducted on a group of United Kingdom healthcare professionals - who are among the most at risk of compromising COVID-19 - indicate that relapse cases are rare.
"The statistically significant inverse correlation between mumps titers and COVID-19 indicates that there is a relationship involved that warrants further investigation", says co-author David J. Hurley, a molecular microbiologist at the University of Georgia.
"High demand combined with a limited supply will make COVID-19 vaccines the equivalent of liquid gold to organized crime networks as soon as one is available."Jurgen Stock, Interpol Secretary-General said".
Scientists are now reassuring that the MMR jab is a safe vaccine which has the "ultimate benefit" of preventing against Covid.
"Maximum seropositivity is achieved through two vaccinations at least 28 days apart".
The global criminal police organization, commonly known as Interpol has urged law enforcement agencies worldwide, to be more cautious of Covid-19 contaminated letters which may be used to target political figures, reports NDTV.
Within the MMR II group, mumps titers of 134 to 300 AU/ml (n=8) were only found in those who were functionally immune or asymptomatic.
As per the report, MMR II contains the Edmonston strain of measles, the Jeryl Lynn (B-level) strain of mumps, and the Wistar RA 27/3 strain of rubella.
No serious side effects were reported. If vaccination of postpubertal females is undertaken, pregnancy should be avoided for 3-months following vaccination.
The researchers said there was no way to get around this, as most people with the vaccine are young - it hasn't been around forever.
