Michigan House Speaker Lee Chatfield, Van Langevelde's boss, flew to Washington, D.C. Friday with six other GOP lawmakers to meet with Trump and members of his team Friday.
The statement indicates further chaos for a legal team that has lost case after case in contested states as it works to overturn the results of the November 3 election. State law allows a candidate to request a recount if the margin is less than 0.5%. David Fink, attorney for the city of Detroit, asked the court to sanction Trump's attorneys for using a motion to dismiss to spread disinformation about the election results.
Giuliani, Ellis and Powell all appeared together at a news conference last week, when they made a range of baseless accusations about the integrity of the election.
This will be the third time the votes in the presidential race have been counted in Georgia.
They said they only certified the vote because of the audit agreement, which Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson later said was not binding. "These errors are all attributable to human error in the operation of tools used to report unofficial results, did not affect the actual tabulation of votes and were identified and corrected either prior to or during the county canvass".
The new request to delay certification comes after a two-week period where MI double-checked ballots in all 83 counties - and found some expected inaccuracies and irregularities that happen in most elections.
Powell's remarks presumably created a divide between the Trump campaign and Kemp, a Republican, as well as Raffensperger, a Trump supporter.
Later Saturday, Raffensperger sent a written message to his deputy asking him to officially notify county election directors to prepare for the recount and to notify political parties so they could muster observers at the respective sites. Once the signatures are verified, to protect ballot secrecy enshrined in Georgia law, the ballots are separated from the envelopes and can't be matched back to individual voters. The governor urged the secretary of state to randomly select ballots to match signatures, even though it would violate the state constitution.
"I suspect you'd see a resolution to that effect within hours if not days", Liedel said.
The recommendation was posted online with the formal Monday meeting notice of the Board of State Canvassers. One rule authorizes absentee ballot drop boxes in each county. The board would need a majority vote to certify the election.
