Cincinnati Bengals' quarterback Joe Burrow, the No. 1 pick in the 2020 National Football League draft, was carted off the field with a left knee injury Sunday.

The play happened early in the third quarter against the Redskins, when Burrow was sacked. There may be additional damage.

The Bengals, it should be noted, had not yet officially ruled out Joe Burrow for the rest of the season.

Burrow ended his day completing 22 of 34 passes for 203 yards and one touchdown.

Cincinnati's ability to protect Burrow was one of the biggest questions entering the 2020 season.

Cincinnati had hoped Burrow was the franchise's next cornerstone quarterback when the Bengals selected the southeast OH product with the top overall pick in April's draft.

Burrow tweeted "see ya next year" shortly after the game, signaling he expected to miss the remainder of the campaign.

Quarterback Alex Smith rallied Washington past the Cincinnati Bengals 20-9 to win the game. Their next three games are against the New York Giants (3-7), Miami Dolphins (6-4) and the Dallas Cowboys (3-7).

The Bengals are in last place in the AFC North, well behind the third-place Baltimore Ravens (6-4).
