The Sputnik V vaccine, made by the Gamaleya Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology in Moscow, uses adenovirus (Ad) "vectors" to deliver a gene that codes for the surface protein, spike, of SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19.
It aims to produce approximately 20 million doses of its mRNA-1273 vaccine by the end of 2020 and 500 million to 1 billion doses globally in 2021.
"Evaluation of efficacy was carried out among volunteers (n = 18,794) 28 days after receiving the first dose (seven days after the second dose) of the vaccine or placebo upon reaching the second control point", it said.
UK, US and Canada agencies say hackers exploited software flaws, but can't say if information was stolen.
The Karnataka government has initiated measures for delivery, distribution and administration of the COVID-19 vaccine whenever it arrives as advised by the Centre, Karnataka Health Minister Dr K Sudhakar said on Tuesday.
The vaccine candidate is also being tested on human volunteers in India and would cost "less than $10 [₹700] for global markets", the RDIF said in a statement.

President Vladimir Putin, who announced Sputnik V's approval with much fanfare in August, saying one of his daughters had been vaccinated, has touted the jab as effective and safe, but appeared in no rush to take it himself.
Ezike said the hospital workers set to receive the vaccine in the first rounds include staff who are not health care professionals, such as the cleaning and food staff.
"In order to have an exact assessment of the cold storage capacity required for COVID-19 vaccine programme, the number of doses in each vial, the volume of a vial, need to be assessed", Sudhakar said.
In those early months, the vaccines will be shipped to 64 jurisdictions - 50 states and the District of Columbia, eight territories, and five large urban health departments including New York City and Chicago, according to Jay Butler, MD, deputy director for infectious diseases at the CDC.
Moscow, keen to win global market share, touted the worldwide price for Sputnik V as competitive.
Moderna Inc last week released preliminary data for its vaccine showing 94.5% effectiveness.
Russian Federation plans to produce around 2 million doses of Sputnik V this year, and Dmitriev said Moscow and its foreign partners had capacity to make more than a billion doses starting from next year, enough to vaccinate more than 500 million people.
