Morris' brother Marcus signed a four-year $64 million with the Los Angeles Clippers over the weekend, and there were rumors that Markieff could be joining his brother if things fell through with the Lakers.
Marc Gasol was initially drafted by the Lakers with the 48th pick in the second round of the 2007 NBA Draft.
Harrell still had mixed emotions about leaving the Clippers, where he became a key player two seasons before Kawhi Leonard and Paul George arrived to transform the roster a year ago.
The Lakers made a move in order to create room for Gasol, as they traded center JaVale McGee to Cleveland. Gasol started in every game throughout the playoffs, and his presence on the court helped the Raptors win their first title as they defeated the Golden State Warriors.
The Lakers will guarantee $580,000 of Bell's salary, waive him and use the stretch provision to space the money owed to him over the next three years, league sources told Marks. That will leave the Lakers with only enough cap space to sign three more players to one-year, veteran's minimum contracts for 2020-21.
Also, the Lakers chose to waive guard Quinn Cook, who didn't get much playing time with the squad last season but still was able to win his second ring in the association. According to Harrell, the National Basketball Association champion Lakers made it clear they badly wanted him in the opening minutes of free agency.
The Clippers took their sweet time of re-signing Harrell.
He was later asked whether he had wanted to return to the Clippers after averaging career highs in points (18.6) and rebounds (7.1) last season, coming off the bench in 61 of the 63 regular-season games he played.
McKinnie, 28, played on the Cavs for just one season.
