Rockets trade Russell Westbrook to Wizards in exchange for John Wall

Westbrook's trade continues the off-season upheavals for the Rockets as James Harden, the league's leading scorer, was seeking a trade from the team.

Westbrook was linked to Wall and the Wizards for a potential trade, though talks between the two sides had reportedly stalled for weeks.

"He had a preference of John Wall over Westbrook", said Adrian Wojnarowski on ESPN Thursday morning.

Westbrook, 32, famously joined the Rockets previous year after his former team, Oklahoma City Thunder, agreed to trade the nine-time NBA All-Star to Houston in exchange for fellow point guard Chris Paul, two protected first-round picks and other draft considerations. "What he has meant to our organization and our community is immeasurable and will not be forgotten".

Wall, a five-time all-star, hasn't played in a game since December 2018 due to injuries. He has $133 million and three years remaining on his contract.

With Westbrook coming off of a Third Team All-NBA selection in his one year in Houston, it might seem counterintuitive to be skeptical of what he will bring to the table in Washington.

The move to Houston offers Wall a fresh start alongside Harden, PJ Tucker, Eric Gordon, and free-agent signing Christian Wood and reunites him with former Kentucky teammate and close friend DeMarcus Cousins.

Westbrook will be reunited with Wizards Coach Scott Brooks, who was his coach for seven years in Oklahoma City. "He's very comfortable from 3 now and that is something that I think will be a huge weapon for us moving forward".

Rockets star point guard Russell Westbrook has been traded to the Washington Wizards after spending just one season in Houston.
